Dennis and his buddy Bob were avid horse riding fans, riding together on Bob’s ranch almost every weekend.
One day Bob told Dennis about the great new horse he’d trained. Since Bob was a Christian, he programmed his horse to take off running at top speed, if anybody said the words, “Praise the Lord!” To stop the horse immediately, one only had to say, “Amen!”
Dennis tried the horse out. “Praise the Lord!”, he shouted, and indeed the horse took off running. Man, the horse was fast, should be sent to the race track, he thought. Dennis was enjoying the ride so much, he didn’t notice a fast approaching cliff drop. In less than a minute, Dennis and the horse would run over the cliff face, and drop to their deaths.
In a panic, Dennis could not remember the religious words to influence the horse. “Praise the Lord”, he shouted. The horse only ran faster.
Dennis shouted out every random phrase he could think of. “Jesus, God, Moses, David, parting the Red Sea, walk on water…” Nothing worked! He even tried other religions. “Mohammad, Buddha, the third temple, Jerusalem”.
But nothing worked.
Within mere seconds, horse and man would plunge to their deaths. So, Dennis said a quick prayer request for a safe departure from the physical world, thanked God for one last horse ride before he died, and loudly ended his prayer with, “Amen!”
The horse immediately stopped, mere inches before plunging over the cliff edge.
One of Bob’s cowhands had noticed the trouble and had been galloping close behind the whole time. He soon came up beside Dennis and introduced himself as Darren. “Man I’m glad you got that horse to stop”, he said. “I thought for sure you were dead”.
The cowboy loudly added, “Praise the Lord!”
