I am a spec fic writer as well. I think the phenomenon of contact has to be unpacked starting ab initio. Say 15 billion years as guessed age of universe.
And further given human nature no unpacking permitted outside agreed to, just so stories. Nietzsche would call this "priestly science."
I follow simulation theory as more credible than evolution theory. As such, in my individual "reality tunnel" (as Jason Bresheaars, also a simulationist, of archaix.com might say) is only 53 years old, and the collective "reality tunnel" points to realities outside our simulated reality. Perhaps outside the construct, our reality is billions of years old, or older. Ultimately, I think time is as much an illusion as our simulated reality.
